2. Entrance to Komatsu Laboratory

If you are considering to study in Komatsuf laboratory as a research / master course / doctoral course student, please understand well the followings below and contact Professor Komatsu in good time.

a) If you would like to enter as a research student, please contact Professor Komatsu at latest by the middle of November or April because the application for a research student is closed annually by the middle of December or May. It is possible to enter next April if your application is accepted in December, and it is possible to enter in October if accepted in May of the same year.

b) Even if you would like to study as a master or doctoral course student, it is better to be enrolled as a research student before taking an exam for it because it is necessary to get accustomed to the life in Japan and Nagoya University, to prepare for the exam. In addition, please be careful that the exam is done only in summer (August) every year.

c) If you would like to study as a doctoral student, it is necessary to develop your research framework well before taking an exam. Your research framework including the contents and the schedule for it is examined strictly in the entrance exam. Then, it is requested to be a research student as mentioned above, and to discuss your research framework well with Professor Komatsu. Exam is done in summer (August) and in winter (February).

d) Regarding the financial issue in your staying and studying in Japan, it is necessary for you to show the financial ability with some evidences because, generally speaking, it is very difficult to earn money for your living and study by a part time job in Japan. In the admission process, the University also officially requests you to show some evidences regarding your financial ability regarding the living and the study in Japan.

e) Regarding language, if you like to be a master course student, it is requested to answer the questions of entrance exam in Japanese because lectures and workshops for planning and design are generally done in Japanese. If you like to be a doctoral student, it is possible to take an exam in English. After passing exam, it is fine to do your research work in English, but it is strongly expected to learn Japanese and to get to communicate in Japanese with other students and administration staffs in your daily living. It is sure that it would make your life very smooth, as well as research work in Japan.
